About Catherine Philbin

With 20 years of communications and marketing experience, Catherine Philbin serves as the head of communications at Universal Sports Network.

Philbin is responsible for managing the overall public relations strategy and communications activities for the network’s original shows, distribution, social media, live events and year-round coverage of Olympic-related sports. Since joining Universal Sports, Philbin has launched original shows such as Countdown to Sochi, Podium360 and Beyond the Medals-The Business of Sports in addition to creating award winning social media campaigns for the 2014 Boston Marathon and managing both trade and consumer PR efforts for Rugby World Cup 2015.

Prior to Universal Sports, Philbin served as Public Relations Director for FremantleMedia Enterprises, the commercial division of international television production company FremantleMedia. While there, she oversaw the development and execution of FME’s communications strategy in the Americas for their distribution and acquisitions, consumer products, digital content, and sponsorship initiatives for their brands including American Idol and The Price Is Right.

Philbin’s sports industry background includes stints at Major League Soccer overseeing corporate communications, in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ publicity and media relations department, and with sports and lifestyle PR firm Taylor Communications.

Philbin earned her MBA from the University of Maryland, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication.
